Kerygma 4 Kids - Grade 3, Chapter 3 --- Jesus is Your Shepherd

Once the children experience the love of God and have had the opportunity to ponder Christ's saving work, we want to invite them to respond. While adults and older youth have the capacity to make a choice to follow Christ, younger children can make commitments that are more appropriate for their age. Third graders like having a choice. In this next section, the children will have an opportunity to make the choice to invite Jesus into their hearts.

We begin by reminding the children that the forgiveness of sins is offered to us. No sin is too big for God, and He gives us every opportunity to rectify our behaviors. Third graders in particular desire forgiveness and need to know they have a second chance. It's important for the children to understand that God always desires our friendship, no matter how much we sin. Establishing friendships is very important for children this age, even though they may lack the skills to do so.

The lesson concludes by teaching children how to share the Good News of Jesus with others. By virtue of our Baptism, we are called to evangelize. It is important to lay this foundation at an early age. Children this age may be surprised to learn that they are called to participate in God's work. The concluding activity gives the child the language by which to proclaim the kerygma themselves. Children can be encouraged to introduce their friends to Jesus and share what they have experienced and learned.
