Kerygma 4 Kids - Kindergarten, Chapter 2 --- Jesus is Your Light

This lesson contains the proclamation of the kerygma--- the Good News that Jesus died and rose to save us from sin.

The consequences of sin and the death of Jesus are presented gently. At this age, the consequence of sin is explained simply as "separation from God." The impossibility of reaching heaven without Jesus is a concept that is beyond the Kindergartners' emotional and developmental level.

Kindergartners have a sense of right and wrong and are beginning to understand rules. Explaining sin as doing something against God's law on purpose should speak to the child's sense of justice. However, it is important to be aware that some young children can be confused about the difference between an accident and a deliberate choice. This may require some extra discussion to clarify.

The idea that Jesus is the light of the world is echoed again, with the hope that the child can now see more clearly why Jesus is the light that shines in the darkness. While the cross is briefly mentioned in the lesson, the workbook activity shows the cross as a symbol of Jesus' saving work.

This lesson closes by reminding the children that God loves them even if they do sin, and He is always ready to forgive them.
